Weekend breaks in Brussels
Being the capital of Belgium and the European Union, Brussels is a tourist attraction all on its own. It is the headquarters of a lot of international organizations, which is why it is hailed as the second international city in the world. Here, you can find great food, wonderful museums, and hot shopping spots. But before you make your tour of Brussels, make sure that you have an umbrella on hand because the rains fall in Brussels almost all the time.
The Grand Place is considered to be the tourist center of Brussels. Here you can admire the intricate architecture of one of the most gorgeous town squares in the whole of Europe. In the Grand Place, you will find the Maison du Roi, which has a museum dedicated to the history of Brussels. Just a few blocks away from the Grand Palace, you will see the Manneken-Pis, which is a world famous statue of a naked, peeing little boy.
If you are in for a little shopping, you should visit the Galleries St. Hubert, Brussels' famous shopping gallery. Next to it is the Rue des Bouchers, where you can eat at any restaurant of your choice. Most of them serve sea foods. But of course, do not forget to check out the world famous chocolates of Belgium. Some of the best chocolatiers in Brussels include Wittamer, Marcolini, and Mary's.
You can also visit the Atomium, which is a mammoth steel construction representing an atom. You can find an exhibit here called the Mini-Europe, where you can view replicas of Europe's greatest architectural sights.
If you are interested in music, then you have to pay a visit to the Music Museum. However, if architecture is your thing, you should visit the La Maison Horta, where you will be treated to an art nouveau experience while encapsulated inside a house.
